POSITION DUTIES

This position is responsible for the development, delivery, revision and implementation of all Emergency Vehicle Operations training objectives, practical exercises and evaluations in support of all the Police and Correctional Training Commissions, Emergency Vehicle Operations programs administered by staff assigned to the Drivers Training Unit. This is a professional training administrator/coordinator/instructor position within the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions, Driver Training Unit. The Driver Training Unit is responsible for providing C.O.M.A.R. mandated Entry Level, In-Service, Instructor Certification and continuing education to Police and Correctional professionals throughout the Maryland and other jurisdictions. The selected candidate will research, identify, design, develop, organize, implement, coordinate, instruct, manage and evaluate the delivery of all programs within the Emergency Vehicle Operations courses of study.

Develop, deliver and/or facilitate professional emergency vehicle operations training for law enforcement and correctional personnel. Present instruction (classroom and practical) in EVOC training programs conducted at the DTF.

  • Prepare evaluations of student’s performance and written records and files. Develop, setup, clear, adjust, etc. practical course training exercises. 
  • Familiarize self with all content for DTU lesson plans and programs. 
  • Supervise Allied Department Instructors while they are conducting their own training programs at the DTF. 
  • Assure accountability of DTF equipment utilized during training exercises, (helmets, radios, first aid equipment, stopwatches, tire pressure gauges, vehicle fluids, keys, training vehicles, etc.) and report vehicle, equipment and facility maintenance needs, as soon as aware of, to assure safe operations of such and of the facility. 
  • Assist with maintenance of DTF equipment and facility as the need arises and directed by the Administrator and/or Senior Instructor. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all minimum (and selective) qualifications to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Three years experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

 2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience. 

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet the selective qualification(s) to be considered. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
1. One year of experience instructing for a police academy or police in-service training program.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
1. Possess an Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor Certification from MPCTC or are able to achieve such a certification within six months of beginning employment. 
2. Possess an Academic Instructor’s Certification from MPCTC or are able to achieve such a certification within six months of beginning employment.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
