This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES

The incumbent teaches classes to criminal justice entrance-level students and is also responsible for coordinating training classes taught by other instructors. The incumbent also researches and develops classes on various criminal justice related topics.

  • Instructs Legislative mandated training for members of Administrative Charging Committee and Police Trial Board Civilian members
  • Assists unit members with field training and train-the-trainer programs
  • Evaluate training courses to determine their value before material is presented
  • Design and implement assigned associated programmatic projects
  • Conduct on-going research to update training materials/lesson plans/power point presentations for assigned classes
  • Arrange/coordinate the training locations within assigned areas

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all minimum (and selective) qualifications to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying. 


Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

 

Experience: Five years of experience in the law enforcement profession.

 

Notes:

  1. Candidates may substitute additional professional experience as defined above on a year-for-year basis for the required education, for up to four years.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet the selective qualification(s) to be considered. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

  1. Two years of experience as a Police Trainer/Instructor, developing and delivering training
  2. Must be available to provide in-person training within various locations throughout Maryland on a continuous basis.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications. 

  1. Valid Academic Instructor Certification, COMAR 12.04.04 or 12.10.06.

  • Personal Leave - new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date)
