Introduction

The Special Project Coordinator performs a variety of functions within the Office of the Secretary. The position supports the work of the Legislative Director by assisting in the assignment and tracking of bills during the legislative session and tracks various types of reports to ensure timely completion.  The position will be assigned varying special projects and will be expected to work independently.  The position also handles a wide variety of administrative tasks for the Office of the Secretary and other divisions within the department.   

The desired candidate will possess strong organizational skills, excellent written and oral communications skills and the ability to gather data, compile information, prepare reports, and prioritize and perform tasks on multiple projects. 
 
This is a political special appointment position and serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

Main Purpose of Job

Performs duties related to the legislative session and provides support to various offices with the Department of Budget and Management by completing special projects.  Handles administrative tasks as assigned. 

POSITION DUTIES

Supports the Legislative Director by assisting in the assignment and tracking of bills during legislative session and ensures the timely submission of bill reviews and fiscal notes, as well as tracking reports to completion. Completes special projects for the Office of the Secretary. Performs administrative tasks including producing budget book materials, coordinating facilities management needs, scheduling meetings, and preparation of meeting and briefing materials.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of administrative staff or professional work. 

Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to two years of the required experience. 
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a bachelor’s degree from a college or university for the required experience. 
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate will possess the following:
• Experience providing support for a Legislative Director. 
• Experience assigning and tracking legislative session bills, reviewing bills and fiscal notes and tracking reports. 
• Experience preforming administrative tasks and special projects for the Office of the Secretary including producing budget book materials, coordinating facilities management needs, scheduling meetings, and preparation of meeting and briefing materials.
