The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. This is a Special Appointment position. The incumbent serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

POSITION DUTIES

Develop, deliver and/or facilitate professional emergency vehicle operations training for law enforcement and correctional personnel. The Senior Instructor will assist the Administrator with the daily operations and management of the Driver Training Unit. Additional duties are as follows:

§  Assist with supervising the full/part-time EVO Instructors and train/mentor newly hired DTU instructors.

§  Assist and coordinate scheduling of training programs and provide assistance to respective agencies for scheduling training at DTF.

§  Assign instructor duties for each training program and assist with the arrangement for sufficient instructors to be scheduled for conducting practical classes.

§  Present instruction (classroom and practical) in EVOC training programs conducted at the DTF.

§  Prepare evaluations of student’s performance who participate in and prepare written records and files relating to DTU programs.

§  Familiarize self with all content for DTU lesson plans and programs and monitor training exercises for completion, content, competency and safety procedures.

§  Supervise Allied Department Instructors while they are conducting their own training programs at the DTF.

§  Assure accountability of DTF equipment utilized during training exercises, i.e. helmets, radios, first aid equipment, stopwatches, tire pressure gauges, vehicle fluids, keys, training vehicles, etc.

§  Oversee daily operations of the DTF in the Administrator’s absence and perform other related duties as assigned by the DTU Administrator. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience in administrative or professional work.

Note: Additional experience performing professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet the selective qualification(s) to be considered. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

1. Possess an Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor Certification from MPCTC or is able to achieve such a certificate within six months of employment.

2. Possess an Academic Instructor Certification from MPCTC or is able to achieve such a certificate within six months of employment,

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

1. Two years instructing for law enforcement academy or in-service training.

2. Two years instructing emergency vehicle operations.

· Personal Leave - new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date)
· Annual Leave - ten (10) days of accumulated annual leave per year
· Sick Leave - fifteen (15) days of accumulated sick leave per year
