This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES

Assist the Director of Law Enforcement Training in directing and managing police training programs, to include the Driver Training Unit, the Firearms Training Unit and the Physical Training Center Unit. The Assistant Director will provide input into in-service and advanced specialized training programs.

Duties Include:

  • Oversee operations of the three skill-based training units: Driver Training, Firearms Training, and Physical Training / Defensive Tactics
  • Provide input to Director related to advanced and specialized police training programs: police in-service programs, and other miscellaneous police training
  • Represent the Director at various events and committees for police training issues, assist MD agencies with training projects, i.e., Police Training Directors / Coordinators etc.
  • Serve, at times in lieu of the Director, as the Agency’s representative to the MD Police Training Directors Association and the Ethan Saylor Alliance Steering Committee
  • Coordinate with Agency / PCTC Units to design and develop specialized law enforcement training programs

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all minimum (and selective) qualifications to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.

Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Five years of experience in working at the administrator, senior management or command staff level for a law enforcement organization.

Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in the law enforcement field on a year-for-year basis for the required education, for up to four years.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet the selective qualification(s) to be considered. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

Three years of experience as a MPCTC certified instructor or equivalent public safety training certification.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

1. Willing to travel as needed across Maryland to provide training and represent the MD Police and Correctional Training Commissions

2. Five years of experience reviewing, interpreting and applying requirements of statutes, regulations, policies, lesson plans and procedures.

3. Experience presenting before large groups, executives or dignitaries
