Maryland Public Television, commonly known as MPT, is a public television network that broadcasts throughout the entire state of Maryland and the District of Columbia and into parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is Maryland's only statewide broadcaster. Headquartered in Owings Mills, MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and is a producer of both locally and nationally distributed TV programs and digital content.
The Maryland Public Broadcasting Commission seeks a visionary leader to guide MPT into the future. Our new CEO will drive MPT's mission to enrich lives and strengthen all communities through the power of media. You'll ensure MPT continues to deliver award-winning programing, high quality educational services, and community resources. You'll champion our network in governmental, corporate and organizational settings statewide and oversee our service to all of Maryland's diverse communities.
This role offers the opportunity to expand MPT's presence across broadcast and streaming platforms, to lead the way in promoting media literacy and to create programming that highlights Maryland's rich history. You'll ensure that this network retains its financial sustainability and commitment to community service.
POSITION DUTIES
- Develop and implement a community-centered institutional plan that reflects the diverse needs of Marylanders.
- Lead digital transformation efforts to expand MPT’s reach across all platforms.
- Secure financial sustainability by attracting significant public and private funding for both general operations and key initiatives.
- Forge strategic partnerships with state government, educational institutions, non profit organizations, and other key stakeholders.
- Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout MPT’s workforce and programming, ensuring all operations align with MPT’s mission and public service goals.
- Ensure MPT maintains editorial integrity, providing trusted, unbiased journalism to its audiences.
- Inspire innovation at all levels, cultivating a diverse and inclusive workplace that values creativity and excellence.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline is required
- Minimum of ten years of senior management media experience, with a strong preference for leadership experience in public broadcasting.
- Demonstrated success in digital content innovation, audience growth, and strategic partnerships.
- Strong financial acumen, including experience managing multi-million-dollar budgets and developing diverse revenue streams.
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills, with the ability to inspire and lead a large, diverse team.
- A proven track record of success in recruiting, retaining, and respecting a diverse staff while fostering an environment of inclusion and innovation.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience in public broadcasting’s regulatory environment (CPB, FCC) along with PBS and other media management.
