Introduction

The position will serve as the State’s Director of the Governor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs. The Director will manage the operation of the Office and establish guidelines and procedures to promote the orderly and efficient operation of the office. The Director will adopt regulations necessary to carry out the provisions of this subtitle. Subject to the provisions of the subtitle the Director may establish, reorganize, or consolidate areas of responsibility in the Office of Immigrant Affairs as necessary to fulfill the responsibilities assigned by the Director.

POSITION DUTIES

General Purpose: Advise the Governor or the Governor’s designee on all matters assigned to the Office and carry out the Administration’s policies on matters assigned to the Office. Manage the operation of the Office and establish guidelines and procedures to promote and support the needs of the immigrant community. Establish a network of neighborhood-based opportunity centers that provide immigration services to immigrants. Increase access to ESOL programs. Assist Immigrants in matters relating to immigration status, including assisting with the naturalization process and applications for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

Responsibilities:
  • Connect Immigrants to resources including skills training, employment referral programs, resettlement support, and workforce development programs. 
  • Reduce the exploitation of Immigrants. 
  • Establish a network among local governments to encourage civic engagement of immigrant communities.  
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent  
  • At least 3 years of experience in immigration services as an executive or similar role, preferably in a government setting
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines 
  • Bi-lingual/multilingual 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in multiple languages 
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team  
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in all matters  
  • Flexibility to work outside of regular business hours, as needed 
  • Reliable transportation
