This is a SPECIAL APPOINTMENT position with the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. The incumbent serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

POSITION DUTIES

This position is responsible for the overall direction and support of the Maryland Correctional Training Commission (CTC). This involves coordinating activities of and providing administrative support for Commission meetings and activities. It includes responsibility to assist Police and Correctional Training Commissions (PCTC) staff with administrative duties related to Commission mandated activity and matters affecting certification and processes. The position works closely with the Executive Director of the Public Safety Education and Training Center.
• Lead, direct and administer the operations of the Maryland Correctional Training Commission
• Administer and enforce the regulations of the Commission with all Maryland correctional agencies/units
• Bring forth issues regarding regulations of the Commission with all Maryland correctional agencies/units
• Direct the administrative functions for the Commission so as to comply with Maryland public meeting laws and the mission of the Commission
• Consult with the Chair of the Commission for agenda and action items
• Consult with public safety leaders and correctional organizations throughout Maryland concerning regulations or commission related matters
• Support and coordinate with the Executive Director of the Public Safety Education and Training Center
• Consult with the Commission Chair, other members of the Commission, and correctional organizations regarding legislative proposals pertaining to the Commission

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all minimum (and selective) qualifications to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Correctional Science, Public Administration or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: 5 years of professional experience researching, reviewing, investigating, and interpreting legislative, regulatory or other similar information to present to an executive level board, board of directors, or legislative body.

5 years of professional experience working in an adult or juvenile correctional or detention facility at an administrator level or higher.

Notes:

1. Additional professional experience as a member of an Executive level board or board of directors may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional professional experience as a Correctional Warden or equivalent Correctional Commander may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a high ranking commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

Professional experience presenting or testifying in front of a legislative session or legislative body.

More than one year of experience serving as a member of an executive level commission or board of directors.

· Personal Leave - new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date)
