POSITION DUTIES

General Purpose: The Compliance Officer position provides direct support from the Governor’s Office of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to the customers filing complaints regarding interpreter violations. This position enforces the regulations set by the State Board of Sign Language Interpreters (SBSLI), handles complaints, investigates and attends/sets hearings for the board. Ensures regulations are in compliance, met and are enforced. Investigate complaints and disbursements associated with the licensing, renewals and reinstatement fees to and from the special non-lapsing funding.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure adherence with established guidelines, complete investigations and address any concerns that arise. 
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with regulations.  
  • Design, implement, and manage compliance programs.  
  • Conduct regular audits and reviews.  
  • Prepare and submit required reports.  
  • Provide guidance and manage compliance matters. 
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of administrative staff or professional work working in an interpreter setting.

Notes
  1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience. 
  2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
  3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience. 
  4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for- year basis for the required experience.
In addition to the qualifications listed above, the candidate must possess knowledge of Deafness, Deaf Culture, American Sign Language, Interpreting Practices.

  • Highly qualified interpreting skills 
  • Ability to assess customer’s complaints regarding communication needs in order to provide effective assessment to process complaints  
  • Communication, knowledge of communication access accommodations  
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing and orally and in American Sign Language
  • Ability to speak publicly 
  • Ability to train others 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in all matters 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other office software 
  • Flexibility to work outside of regular business hours, as needed
