POSITION DUTIES

General Purpose: The data analyst for the Innovation Team will support the Innovation Team’s data scientist in applying data science to improve the lives of Marylanders. This role will use qualitative and quantitative data to identify the root causes of complex social and economic issues and develop new insights into these problems and how they impact those living in the state.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis to identify the root causes of complex social and economic problems that intersect with the work of the Innovation Team
  • Translate analysis and developing materials to successfully communicate research findings for Innovation Team colleagues and relevant State collaborators
  • Leverage research findings to develop practical solutions for Innovation Team projects that improve the lives of Marylanders
  • Engage multiple stakeholders, constituencies, and/or agencies to gather and process data related to Innovation Team projects
  • Develop quantitative metrics and targets for projects, and tracking progress towards performance targets
  • Ensure data sources are fit for their intended purpose through assessment of potential data quality issues
  • Identify, collect, organize, analyze, and present data relevant to Innovation Team projects
  • Produce compelling and intuitive data visualizations to drive understanding of complex topics and concepts across a range of stakeholders
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience using statistical analysis tools and presenting results of analysis to a range of audiences  
  • Passion for applying data science to help address challenges 
  • A track record of demonstrating and successfully applying the following characteristics:
    • Excellent ability to simplify information and concepts, to formulate options and recommendations, and to communicate with all levels of management and workforce to achieve objectives  
    • Effective listener - probes, surfaces, and shares new ideas and ways of doing things
