Introduction

Maryland Public Television, commonly known as MPT, is a public television network that broadcasts throughout the entire state of Maryland and the District of Columbia and into parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is Maryland's only statewide broadcaster. Headquartered in Owings Mills, MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and is a producer of both locally and nationally distributed TV programs and digital content.

Main Purpose of Job

Maryland Public Television is seeking a part-time, contractual employee who will support production through all stages of broadcast/digital content creation for the station's locally produced programs. The employee will assist MPT’s Production Services, in addition to various other departments.

POSITION DUTIES

The employee will learn the technical aspects of television and multimedia broadcast production, while gaining exposure to a control room environment.

Tasks include, but not limited to: 

  • studio/location production
  • camera and teleprompter operation
  • non-linear editing
  • location sound recording
  • field and studio lighting

Other tasks include conducting story research, assisting crew during field and studio productions, logging and transcribing footage, media management, searching databases for archival assets, generating content for MPT website and social media platforms, scripting short packages, and editing in Avid or Premiere.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate is required.  Applicants must be current students or recent graduates from an accredited college or university within the past (6) months.

Experience: Applicants must have prior experience with media production and video editing software.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following qualifications:


• experience with non-linear editing (Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop and/or Canva)
• coursework, e.g. a degree program in Film, Communications, Journalism or a related discipline
• prior internship/work experience in a media environment
• ability to create and publish to website (CMS platforms like WordPress) and social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube)
exposure to field or studio cameras is preferred
