This is an opening for the 2024-2025 School Year.
Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse, bilingual

This is a 10.5-month position.

Main Purpose of Job
This position reports to the Supervisor of Enhanced Services and directly coordinates the daily responsibilities and operations of the teacher aides within the Enhanced Program of Services on the Frederick Campus. The position develops, coordinates, and implements ongoing professional development for the Enhanced Program teacher aides who support qualified students identified with moderate to severe additional disabilities in various settings including communication, transportation skills, academic support, employment, social/emotional support, and daily life skills in all environments. In partnership with the Supervisor of Enhanced Services and the Director of Student Support Services, this position is responsible for making recommendations for hiring and managing daily personnel matters for all Enhanced Program teacher aides. In addition, this position works collaboratively with all department administrators and assistants to manage the daily substitute coverage needs of Enhanced Program teacher aids to ensure students’ needs are met and any personnel and other concerns are addressed promptly. In collaboration with the Supervisor of Enhanced Services, and the Director of Student Support Services, the Coordinator works closely with the Chief Education Programs Officer (CEPO) and department Principals to ensure program needs are met for qualified students and the staff working to support them.
POSITION DUTIES
The
Coordinator will provide daily guidance, instruction, and support to aides
assigned to work with students in the Enhanced Program specific to their
individualized needs, identified moderate to severe disabilities, and in
support of program services at MSD. In
partnership with the Supervisor of Enhanced Services, the Coordinator is
responsible for individual staff and student assignments and adjustments, coverage needs, and schedules, as
appropriate for each department, staff, and student. The Coordinator is responsible for creating
and delivering professional development workshops that address the specific
needs of students, which support staff working with the students, and that also
align with school-wide training focus areas and initiatives. In partnership with the Supervisor of
Enhanced Services and the Director of Student Support Services, the Coordinator
is responsible for collaborating with Principals and Supervisors within various
departments and grade levels to meet department operational needs relating to
Enhanced Program needs and the needs of teacher aides supporting students. With
the Supervisor of Enhanced Services and Director of Student Support Services,
the Coordinator will develop job descriptions (MS-22), conduct mid-cycle and
end-cycle evaluations of performance, approve timesheets, conduct interviews
for hiring new staff, and create documentation systems for organized
record-keeping of personnel support.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's
Degree required.
Experience: Knowledge/experience working with students who are deaf/hard
of hearing and who have additional moderate to severe disabilities. Strong English writing skills and fluency in
American Sign Language are required.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred
experience in a supervisory/leadership role. Experience working in a special
education environment/setting.
Experience/knowledge of Maryland Online IEP system or equivalent online
IEP system. Experience working with
deaf/hard of hearing students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
