POSITION DUTIES
- Plans, develops, and implements policies and procedures for nutrition education and support in accordance with Federal and State WIC guidelines.
- Implements program changes related to nutrition.
- Stays up to date on current knowledge of regulations pertaining to WIC.
- Provides liaison and professional relationships with the public and coordinating agencies as needed.
- Attends state-mandated training and meetings and shares information with the WIC staff.
- Completes Nutrition Education Annual Plan.
- Takes an active role in promoting WIC in the community.
- Ensures that the clinic has up to date nutrition education materials and no formula displayed to the public.
- Provides nutrition care counseling to WIC clients identified as at high nutritional risk per State policy and procedure including those with breastfeeding complications as needed.
- Completes Nutrition Care plan.
- Reviews and authorizes referrals for special formula and requests.
- Processes and orders special formula through CAP Lancaster.
- Monitors formula inventory and maintains a log.
- Participates in all phases of WIC Program.
- Assists with certification of clients, benefit pick up, appointment reminders, answering phones, etc.
- Accepts responsibility for special projects as assigned.
- Includes tasks such as signing for packages, referring clients to other programs, checking and logging equipment function (AED, scales, etc.). Understands the operations of the program and can answer questions accurately. Understands basics of the HCHD and can refer and transfer clients to appropriate program(s). Knows how to use language line for clients who need language assistance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice under the licensing requirements for Nutritionists and Dietitians.
Experience: Two years of experience providing professional nutrition or dietetic services.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree in Public Health, Community Health or Nutrition from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Dietitian and Nutritionist classification or Dietitian and Nutritionist specialty codes in the Dietitian field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Dietitian/Nutritionist from the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215 prior to permanent appointment. A copy of your license or license number should be uploaded on your application.
2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
