Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Natural Resources Police. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

LOCATION OF POSITION

580 Taylor Avenue, Annapolis, MD (Anne Arundel County)

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide administrative support in the area of personnel management for the Natural Resources Police. This position independently evaluates and processes all human resources actions for approximately 279 law enforcement officers, 64 civilian and 11 contractual employees.

*Please note, this position is not part of DNR's Human Resource Services unit. It is important to note that the individual in this role is not authorized to provide HR-related advice or review confidential HR materials without prior approval from the HR Director, Employee Relations Manager or Benefits Manager. 

POSITION DUTIES

The Department of Natural Resources, Natural Resources Police in Annapolis, Maryland is currently accepting applications for an Administrative Specialist II. This position assists with administrative support in the area of personnel management for the Natural Resources Police. This position will assist with managing personnel process for hiring, transfers, reclassifications and promotions of Natural Resources Police Officers, Civilians and Contractual Employees. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of experience using WorkDay (Statewide Personnel System) working in Human Resources related field
  • One year of experience in administrative staff or professional work in the field of Human Resources in a Law Enforcement Agency to include preparing and maintaining employment records, calculating salaries, applying and interpreting rules and policies, preparing personnel-related reports, counseling employees regarding benefits and obligations, and responding to inquiries concerning employment actions
  • One year of experience and be knowledgeable with FMLA, IWIF, ASL and FROI
  • One year of experience using Microsoft Office and Google Software

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates may be responsible for providing their own transportation as needed to access meetings, remote locations, and job destinations as assigned. If you possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland with five points or fewer on your current driving record, you may be eligible to utilize a fleet vehicle to travel to and from the job destination only.
