Main Purpose of Job

This position performs a variety of complex and independent duties for Central Services and Information Technology. Requires the ability to establish and maintain amiable relationships with other employees and the public. This position will receive, log calls and follow up for maintenance, repair orders and special requests for service at all facilities. This position will write correspondence, purchase office supplies, computer equipment and office equipment. This position will process incoming equipment, unpack, tag, collect paperwork, scan and enter data into appropriate inventories. This position will perform physical inventory of equipment at all facilities. This position will fill in at the Central Services Births and Death Certificates Office when needed. As projects are established this position will provide support to initiate, track and follow up to complete the project. Various other duties including handling mail, cross training with other Central Services staff members to cover in absences. Requires professionalism, ability to work independently, attention to detail, be organized and manage time well. The Central Services staff ensures that facilities, furniture, copiers, pool cars and phones are available and in good working order for employees and the public. The Information Technology staff ensures that network connectivity, hardware and software are available for employees. That is how these departments support the Department of Health's mission to preserve, protect and promote the health of all Anne Arundel County residents.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four years performing secretarial work or clerical work involving typing duties. 

Notes

1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. 

2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience. 

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate for this should possess:
  • Experience with organizing, office procedures, and multitasking
  • Experience with office management software such as Microsoft Office
  • Experience problem-solving in the workplace
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with close attention to detail

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a keyboard on a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
