This is an INTERNAL RECRUITMENT FOR MARYLAND STATE POLICE
EMPLOYEES ONLY (Permanent, Contractual, Temporary).
The Automotive Services
Supervisor position will be responsible for the supervision of the motor
vehicle maintenance facilities located in Queen Anne’s County, Charles County
and Calvert County, Maryland. It will be at the discretion of the Automotive Services
Supervisor to select which location their office will be located.

Main Purpose of Job
The mission of
the Department is to fulfill its role as the State's lead coordinating law
enforcement. organization. This position provides for the supervision of (3)
garages a prime responsibility of overseeing maintenance and repair of vehicles
in support of the Department's mission. This position ensures reports and
maintenance records are accurate and completed in a timely fashion.
POSITION DUTIES
First Line Supervisor - Region VI. Ensure that
Division policies and procedures are followed by region personnel regarding
equipment, inventory, supplies etc. Supervise acquisition of all outside
purchases to make sure that Division policy is adhered to. Oversee scheduling
for maintenance and repairs of MSP vehicles at each regional garage. Maintain
supplies and equipment as necessary in order to keep garages at proper
inventory level so they can operate efficiently and effectively. Resolve any
problems that may arise at regional garages regarding facilities, equipment,
vehicles and personnel. Coordinate accident data to include estimates and
repairs. Provide follow up to ensure damage to a vehicle is repaired in a
timely fashion. Review daily operation to ensure invoices, deliveries and
returns are accounted for.
Maintain a filing system in accordance with MVD policies, to
ensure proper recording and follow up on all regional garage paperwork. Conduct
Decentralized Line Inspections monthly and conduct Bi-Weekly inventories of
stock items.
Assist personnel in understanding and implementing Division
policies and procedures. Participate in Division and Barrack staff meetings and
advise subordinates that information needed to maintain efficiency in
operational and procedural changes. Coordinate operational activities between
region and administrative personnel.
Review Form 16-3 (Repair Order Log), check for accuracy and give
final approval to repair orders submitted by Automotive Service Specialists.
Ensure that vendor invoices are completed with full and correct information and
forwarded for processing at close of each business day.
Carry out any other duties assigned by Motor Vehicle Division.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Completion of the eighth grade.
Experience:
Four years of experience servicing, maintaining and repairing of motor vehicles
or motor equipment two years of which must have involved responsibility for
performing major automotive repair work.
Notes:
1. Graduation
from an accredited vocational/technical high school with a major in automotive
mechanics, or a related field, may be substituted for up to three years of the
required experience.
2.
Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as
a non-commissioned officer in Mechanic classifications or Automotive
Maintenance Technician and Vehicle Maintenance specialty codes in the
Mechanic or Maintenance field of work on a year-for-year basis for the
required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following
preferred qualifications. It is important that you include clear and specific

Preferred Qualifications:
1) Experience as a
Supervisor, team lead or similar capacity
2) Five years’
experience related to fleet management

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned
duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such
duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in
the State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this classification are subject
to random substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland
Regulation 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
In accordance with
Section 2-204 (b) (6) of the Public Safety Article, candidates will be subject
to an initial drug screening, a physical examination and a complete criminal
background investigation to include a polygraph examination before permanent
appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for
rejection of the candidate.
SELECTION PROCESS
Only candidates who meet the minimum
qualifications will be considered for this classification. Therefore, it is
essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your
application. Successful candidates will be placed on the employment Eligible
List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED and QUALIFIED and remain
eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination.
The list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees.
EXAMINATION PROCESS
The examination will consist of a rating of
your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the
position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the
rating may be based on your application. Report all experience and education

examination and will be subject to an interview, background investigation,
polygraph examination and substance abuse testing.
