Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to evaluate, analyze, research and develop data to support the Cancer and Chronic Disease Bureau and its various centers. This position will prepare reports summarizing healthcare data from meetings and develop recommendations for leadership. The position will analyze program data, including provider, community, hospital and survey data, and develop recommendations for strategic initiatives. This position will also provide technical assistance for data analysis and interpretation to support grant applications and program evaluation activities. In addition to Bureau-level assignments, this position will support the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) team by submitting and managing data requests for BRFSS variables, ensuring the inclusion of demographic and risk factor information (e.g., physical activity, smoking, obesity, cholesterol). This position will also use BRFSS data to calculate state and county-level prevalence rates for certain priority diseases and conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university, with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics.

Experience: Two years of experience in designing and conducting epidemiological studies and investigations for disease surveillance as an Epidemiologist after receipt of the Master’s degree.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
