Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
Provide technical support of OSFM RMS and other Maryland Department of State Police (MDSP) applications to include but not limited to:
- Maintain and monitor network and server operations;
- System configurations, accounts creation, assist with application updates, test and install OS security patches and IOS updates on networking equipment;
- Troubleshoot Virtual and Physical Server and IT Infrastructure problems having to do with internet connectivity issues, system outages, and reported problems;
- Using logs and network tools to determine cause of network/server/application issues and take corrective action as needed to include repair and/or replacement of IT hardware;
- Integrate new services/hardware (installs and configurations) to MDSP Core network. Including running. termination and testing of network cabling;
- Manage software licenses, MDSP domain and security certificates for server and network equipment;
- Perform system log reviews and evaluate as directed by policy and create appropriate recommendations;
- Review and ensure software/ firmware is being patched on all network hardware;
- Monitor the applications for security breaches, identify and resolve security related events and follow established reporting procedures;
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Command Staff
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Seven years of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining application, communication, database or operating systems software.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Technology, Management Information Systems or other information technology-related field to include coursework in application, communication, database or operating systems software technology for four years of the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and one year of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining application, communication, database or operating systems software for four years of the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute experience operating computer systems; or scheduling, controlling input and output to process data on computer systems; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software; or converting data from project specifications by developing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages on a year-for-year basis for a high school education.
4. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems or other information technology-related field to include coursework in application, communication, database or operating systems software technology and three years of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining application, communication, database or operating systems software for the required experience.
5. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Computer Systems Operations classifications or Computer Systems Operations specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualifications. It is important that you include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
- Two years of experience providing technical support, installing/repairing/troubleshooting network equipment;
- Three years experience supporting and maintaining a Windows/Linux Server environment;
- Two years experience with testing and installing OS security patches and IOS updates on network equipment;
- Two years of experience performing system log reviews;
- One year of experience working with and/or setting up audio/visual equipment
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
In accordance with
Section 2-204(b)(6) of the Public Safety Article, candidates for position in
this classification may be subject to an initial drug screening and a complete
criminal background investigation to include a polygraph examination before
permanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for
rejection of the candidate.
SELECTION PROCESS
Only candidates who meet
the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification.
Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information
on your application. Successful candidates will be placed on the Eligible List
categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED and remain
eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination.
The list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees. The list will
be valid for one year.

consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the
requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement,
or the rating may be based on your application. Report all experience and
