Performance Based Opportunity
As part of our continuous efforts to optimize performance and drive
success, the Accountant Trainee is eligible for an annual promotion. The
incumbent may advance to a higher grade within the classification series, based
on satisfactory work performance.
Progressive grade levels include:
Accountant I – Grade 15 ($57,275 - $92,108)
Accountant II – Grade 16 ($60,987 - $98,313)

Main Purpose of Job
The Accountant Trainee is an entry-level accounting professional working in the areas of capital, federal, and reimbursable grants and contracts accounting including financial reporting responsibilities. The incumbent in this position will learn how to examine, analyze, and interpret accounting systems and reports within the Business Administration's, Fiscal Services Division as they relate to the State and Department's fiscal policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing.
Experience: None
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with thirty credit hours in Accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by three credit hours auditing, for the required education.
2. Applicants who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
It is preferred that the selected candidate has the
following:
- Experience using Microsoft Excel and Word;
- Experience in preparing and processing financial transactions;·
- Experience creating expenditures, disbursements, and receipts in an accounting system and/or complex database system.

PERSONAL LEAVE - New State employees are awarded six (6) personal leave days annually (prorated based on start date).
ANNUAL LEAVE - ten (10) days of accumulated annual leave per year.
SICK LEAVE – fifteen (15) days of accumulated sick leave per year.
PARENTAL LEAVE – up to sixty (60) days of paid parental leave upon the birth or adoption of a child.
HOLIDAYS – State employees also celebrate at least twelve (12) holidays per year.
