The Comptroller's General Accounting Division is looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking Staff Accountant for our Financial Reporting Team.

This position will involve supporting various accounting functions to include reconciliations of complex accounts, preparing the Annual Report, providing technical accounting direction and guidance to State agencies, and implementing new technology. We would be honored to have you join our team.

PLEASE NOTE: If hired, you will be unable to prepare tax returns for compensation due to potential conflicts of interest with your duties as a Comptroller of Maryland employee. Also, vacation usage is limited during closeout (July - December).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in Accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing.

Experience: One year of experience ensuring appropriate and consistent interpretation of and compliance with statutory and generally accepted accounting principles in a fiscal control agency or one year of experience supervising professional accounting functions.

NOTE: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in financial management classification or financial management specialty codes in the accounting field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

** For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States, please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalency evaluating members identified at http://naces.org/members/

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience reconciling and researching complex general ledger accounts
  • Experience preparing journal entries with detailed supporting documentation and schedules
  • Experience documenting complex accounting procedures in a detailed manner
  • Familiarity with R*STARS or other full scale enterprise accounting software
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Strong organization and attention to detail
  • Self-starter with excellent communication skills
  • CPA
