We are seeking passionate individuals for the role of Deputy Communications Director, so come join our team and make a meaningful impact on youth and the community at DJS!
The Deputy Communications Director plays a key role in supporting the Communications Director in managing all agency communications aligned with DJS' mission to transform young people's lives, create safer communities, and build more equitable systems. This position is ideal for a dynamic and strategic communicator who thrives in a fast-paced media environment and is passionate about public service.
Some key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Developing and implementing communications strategies that align with DJS' mission and goals, including establishing policies and procedures.
• Managing media and public information requests, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
• Drafting and editing a variety of materials, including press releases, website content, newsletters, brochures, fact sheets, reports, and correspondence that enhance public understanding of DJS’ work.
• Overseeing internal communications, such as the monthly newsletter and daily I-bulletin, ensuring DJS staff and advisory board members stay informed.
• Managing and updating the agency’s website and social media platforms, ensuring content is current, engaging, and informative.
• Planning and promoting programs and public events, including accompanying leadership to engagements.
• Serving as a key point of contact in the absence of the Communications Director, including crisis communications as needed.
This position is eligible to work a hybrid telework schedule.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience in developing and implementing effective
communications strategy and support, including managing staff
and responding to media requests.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The preferred candidate for this position may possess any of the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or closely related field
- Experience in communications, public relations, or a related field, including experience leading a team of communications professionals
- Extensive experience with all forms of media and developing comprehensive communications strategies, including crisis communication and management
- Proficiency in digital media, social media platforms, and content management systems, with the ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with media outlets and stakeholders
- Exceptional verbal and written communication, organizational, and project management skills
