Introduction

This position works directly with the Assistant Director and the Administrator of the Legal Measures Department, Central Collection Unit and is responsible for the supervision of the pre-judgement/post-judgement section of the department.  This position researches judgement accounts to determine the next process to proceed with in order to collect the delinquent judgement debts.  Daily contact with CCU staff, judgement debtors, court staff and officials, attorneys for debtors, CCU's OAG staff, state agency staff as well as title and payroll companies are required.  This position also assists in planning and the implementation of new and revised programs and procedures.

This is a special appointment position that serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

Main Purpose of Job

This department is responsible for filing various litigation and collection pleadings with Maryland's district and circuit courts in the pursuit to collect and enforce the collection of debts owed to the state. The various pleadings are drafted by staff under the direction of a supervisor.

POSITION DUTIES

This position supervises lower-level staff members by reviewing and ascertaining the documents are accurate prior to being assigned to an attorney and being filed with the courts Once the legal documents are filed, the legal process to get the state's funds must continually be monitored and the appropriate next step taken in a timely manner.

Reviews all final pre and post judgment work product. This review might include district and circuit court wage garnishments, liens, dismissals, satisfaction notices, lawsuits and investigation results.

Discusses delinquent accounts with defendants, court officials, legal counsel, creditor contacts, administrative officials, program managers and co-workers.

Assists in the administration of planning and the implementation of new or revised programs and procedures.

Researches and compiles data, prepares reports and spreadsheets, as needed.

Required to maintain a regular and reliable rate of attendance.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience in administrative or professional work.       

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

2 years experience in Court Processes

3 years supervisory experience
