Main Purpose of Job

This position will oversee and provide technical management of the staff and the systems that deliver MPT local and national context to our audience. This position will also be a part of MPT’s senior management team. Responsibilities include: Over-the air broadcasting (transmitters and distribution) and Information Technology including streaming, Master Control, maintaining production equipment, as well as oversee Artificial Intelligence (AI) policies, procedures and best uses. This position includes developing and overseeing budgets, ensuring FCC compliance, negotiating tower tenant leases and network security.

POSITION DUTIES

· Oversee all day-to-day broadcasting activities, assure compliance with all regulatory and state agencies (FCC, FAA, OSHA, etc.) as well as station asset management, information technology, transmission facilities, production equipment and remote transmission facilities
· Responsible for developing and overseeing annual operating budgets for three areas of responsibility; transmission maintenance and information technology. This is interfaced with MPT’s strategic plan.
· Oversee staff training, employee safety and quality control for all broadcast productions.
· This position has the ultimate responsibility for the TV technical plant/transmitter and must maintain a proactive role in maintenance to insure 24/7/365 operation.
· Oversee the maintenance and repairs of the office computers, LAN, mobile phones, tablets, laptops, studio, transmitter and telephone systems.
· Remain up-to-date on industry trends and advancements in network engineering and operations
· Serve as MPT’s primary liaison with PBS, NAB and SMPTE and other technical leadership groups, including State of Maryland IT and broadband departments to ensure timely implementation of upgrades and new technologies or products at a local level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technical area or related media business. 

Experience: Eight (8) years of experience as a broadcasting or IT systems engineer as related to broadcast and/or media distribution. Three (3) years of senior management level experience, including supervisory experience in Broadcasting, IT and/or media production/distribution.

Notes:

Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university for two years of the required experience.

· Background developing and implementing strategic plans for network infrastructure and operations, in alignment with the overall business goals and objectives for a television station

· Background managing vendor relationships and negotiating contracts for network equipment and services

· Knowledge of FCC regulations and communication laws

· Demonstrates working knowledge of IP, satellite and terrestrial transmission systems

· Comfortable working collaboratively in virtual environments

· Excellent organizational and project management skills
