Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

Nature of Work

This is skilled work repairing and maintaining paved and unpaved airfield surfaces, hangers, and various mechanical devices using a variety of light and heavy maintenance and construction equipment, power and hand tools.  Work also involves semi-skilled and manual labor required to perform a variety of duties necessary to maintain airport properties while following airport security regulations concerning access to airfield. Other work responsibilities include: maintaining and performing basic repairs of light and heavy construction and related equipment; operating trucks and related automotive equipment; maintaining and performing basic repairs of mechanical devices; reading manuals, technical journals, checklists, memos, and other written instructions; performing basic carpentry, plumbing, painting and electrical duties; and coordinating airfield maintenance work with airport control tower, other airport personnel, vendors, contractors state employees, and airport patrons.  Employees in this class report to the Airfield Maintenance Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D and one (1) year experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of general maintenance equipment such as tractors, backhoes, bush hogs, zero-turn lawnmowers, etc.

NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must submit to a 5-year Federal Aviation Administration security background check and must pass a TSA background check.  Must be willing to work nights and weekends to complete projects or critical maintenance work. Must have and maintain a valid Alabama Driver's License.  Must be insurable under airport insurance policy. Must submit to random drug tests.
