Nature of Work
The fundamental
reason this classification exists is to perform skilled work repairing and
maintaining paved and unpaved parking and landside surfaces, hangars, and
various mechanical devices. Work also involves semi-skilled labor required to
perform a variety of duties necessary to maintain airport properties, operating
and mechanical systems, building services, and landside ground services, using a variety of light and heavy
construction equipment, power and hand tools. The work responsibilities are: repairs
and maintains a variety of light and heavy construction and related equipment;
operates trucks and related automotive equipment; repairs and maintains a
variety of mechanical devices; performs various maintenance tasks; assigns and
directs the work of custodial technicians in the absence of the supervisor.
Employees in this class report to the Terminal Maintenance Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma
or GED equivalent and five (5) years of experience in the operation,
maintenance and repair of light and heavy automotive and construction
equipment, preferably in terminal maintenance; supplemented by or including one
year of lead worker experience. Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Special Requirements
Must be able to work
in various weather conditions such as rain, extreme heat and/or cold. Must be
willing to be “on-call” on the week of your shift. Must be able to work nights
and weekends. Must submit to a 5-year employment and criminal background check
to include fingerprinting in order to satisfy Federal Aviation Administration
requirements. Must have and maintain a valid Alabama Driver's License and an
insurable driving record.
