Nature of Work
The fundamental reason this position
exists is to manage various accounts, perform account payable tasks for various
city departments, perform general clerical duties, and manage initial point-of-contact
sales tax, business tax, and business licensing responsibilities for the city
Finance Department. Work responsibilities in License and Revenue include the
issuance and maintenance of tax and license accounts and records per the city's
Code of Ordinance, Chapter 16, entitled, “Licenses and Taxation”, and the
state's Uniform Revenue Procedures, Tax Payor Bill of Rights, and other
corresponding local and state laws, intake of tax and business license
applications, intake and maintenance of required supporting documentation,
analyze and conclude which business-related accounts will be established,
performing accounts receivable tasks, for the Revenue Division. Work responsibilities in accounting include
the issuance of payments on behalf of all City departments, reviewing and
correcting invoices for proper account coding, arithmetic, vendor selection,
budget, and supporting documentation, and maintenance of all financial records
regarding the aforementioned tasks. Depending on which section work is being
performed, this position reports to a supervising Compliance Officer, Accounting
Specialist, Assistant Comptroller, or Comptroller.
Minimum Qualifications
High school or GED, successful completion
of two bookkeeping or accounting courses, and two (2) years of accounting
clerical experience. Six (6) months of
additional accounting clerical experience can substitute for the two courses.
NOTE:
Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite
knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
