The fundamental reason this position exists is to research, plan, coordinate and implement Emergency Management activities with an emphasis on the Strategic National Stockpile/Metropolitan Medical Response System (SNS/MMRS) plan. This position will include a variety of administrative tasks involving grant coordination and maintenance of the SNS/MMRS programs. The Essential Functions are coordinates and manages the planning and exercise training of the SNS systems; trains, coordinates and manages skilled personnel involved in exercises; maintains, organizes and manages grant funds; and reports to Emergency Operations Center and assists in implementing emergency management policies and procedures. Work programs and objectives will be developed and approved by the Deputy Director of Emergency Management Agency; however, this employee must exercise initiative and judgment in carrying out the above-mentioned tasks. Direct supervision is received from the Deputy Director with ultimate supervision by the Director of Emergency Management Agency.
Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Political Science, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field. Two years of professional experience in coordinating emergency measures or services to include management, planning, and training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be willing to be on call 24 hours a day in order to activate the Emergency Operations Center during natural, manmade, or technological disasters or hazards. May also be required to report to the scene of an actual disaster as needed. Must have and maintain a valid Alabama Driver’s license in order to operate City Vehicles. Must be willing to attend out of town training which may require overnight stay as needed.
