Nature of Work
The fundamental reason this position exists is to provide sound legal advice and superior legal representation to city officials to aid in achieving their goals. The employee in this class is a legal advisor to the Mayor, City Council, and City department heads and directs all Civil, Real Estate, and Criminal city litigation. Duties require the exercise of extensive independent judgment and are performed in accordance with general policies of the Mayor and the City Council and the accepted standards and practices of the legal profession. The City Attorney is the head of the Legal Department and reports directly to the Mayor. Employee supervises a staff of professional and support personnel. The City Attorney collaborates with the Municipal Court and City Investigations Departments.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a
recognized law school, and possession of a certificate of admission to the Bar
of the Supreme Court of Alabama, and at least seven (7) years of experience in municipal,
administrative, and employment law.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide
the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be
considered.
