The fundamental reason this classification exists
is to perform responsible managerial, administrative and professional
engineering work in the Engineering Department. The employee’s primarily responsibility is
to furnish professional engineering advice, assistance and service to employees
and other departments in connection with the planning or executing of public
works improvement programs. Supervision
is exercised over professional and sub-professional engineering personnel
engaged in public works development and engineering design. The work responsibilities are: supervises,
directs, and evaluates assigned staff; assists in directing operation of the
Engineering Department; assists in the management of the department’s operating
budget; provides technical expertise to assist with the development and design of
projects and other highly technical areas; and directs and oversees the design
section. Employee Reports directly to
the City Engineer.
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
supplemented by seven years of professional experience that includes public
works infrastructure design, management and supervision. Experience using AutoCAD, ArcView GIS,
Microsoft Window and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) software
preferred; Must possess and maintain Professional Engineer registration in the
State of Alabama. Must possess or be willing to obtain a Flood Plain Managers
Certificate.
