The
essential reason this position exists, is to oversee construction, maintenance,
and/or repair projects for City facilities that may include the supervision of
carpentry crews working on those projects. Incumbents interpret all parts of
design drawings and may estimate quantities or volume of components shown. They
oversee, coordinate, and/or perform activities relative to all facets of
project, such as site engineering, grading, building layout, plumbing,
electrical, etc. They ensure that projects are completed according to plans,
specifications, and within budget. Work is performed under the general
supervision of a Building Construction Supervisor. Incumbents generally carry
out assignments with considerable independence and have some latitude in developing
procedures and methods. The distinguishing characteristics of this
classification as compared to the Carpenter II classification include
responsibility for supervising and participating in journey-level carpentry
work as well as the additional experience required to oversee construction,
maintenance and/or repair projects. In addition, Foreman are accountable for
the work performance of their assigned workers.
High school diploma or GED equivalent. Four (4) years of experience as a journeyman
carpenter in rough and/or finished carpentry work with one (1) years of related
supervisory experience.
