The fundamental reason this
position exists is to assist, supervise and direct communications technical
staff in the performance of tasks involving installation, operation,
maintenance and testing, alignment, programming and configuration of complex
digital/analog voice communications network infrastructure and subscriber
equipment. The essential functions include: assisting in maintaining the City
of Montgomery’s wireless communication networks, supervising Electronic Systems
employees, providing direct technical support to communications equipment
users, and assisting in managing communications equipment and Electronic
Systems Division operations. The employee is responsible for providing
technical support to communications equipment users and performing and
assisting in the service, maintenance and repair of base stations and mobile communications
equipment to include repair work, upgrades and modifications on major projects.
In the event communication is lost, the employee is responsible for getting any
and all communications operational to ensure Public Safety Departments can
communicate to protect and serve our citizens and visitors. Work is performed
under general administrative supervision of the Electronic Systems Supervisor.
Associate’s
Degree in Electronics or a closely related field and at least four (4) years of
recent experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of a wide variety
of communications equipment.
NOTE:
Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite
knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must be willing to be
on-call on a rotational basis for emergencies. Must have a valid Alabama
Drivers License.
