The fundamental reason
this classification exists is inspect residential and commercial structures and
lots for compliance with, International Property Maintenance Code, ordinances
and related regulations and requirements. Employees in this class perform
specialized work functions associated with enforcing International Property
Maintenance Codes and City of Montgomery codes and ordinances pertaining to
deteriorated, dilapidated, and unsanitary conditions, the accumulation of
litter, junk, trash, stagnant water and abandoned vehicles on residential lots
hazardous to the public’s health and safety. Although employees receive assistance
on new or difficult inspections, most field work is performed independently and
requires technical discretion and judgment in inspecting a variety of projects.
The work responsibilities include performing interior/exterior inspections;
inspecting properties such as lots and other parcels of land within the City
limits for compliance with City codes, ordinances, and council resolutions;
coordinating abatement of weeds and nuisance on vacant lots and other premises;
accepting additional assignments and performs additional duties as required.
The work is subject to periodic inspection and review by the Chief Property
Maintenance Inspector.
High School Diploma or G.
E. D. Five (5) years’ experience in the
construction, renovation, maintenance, or inspection of residential or
commercial buildings including one (1) year of experience in a leadership
capacity.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must be willing to work
outdoors in all type of weather and be exposed to insect, rodents, unfriendly
pets and poisonous vegetation. Must
obtain ICC Property Maintenance Inspector certification within one (1) year of
employment with the City of Montgomery Inspections Department. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's
license as needed to operate city vehicles.
