The fundamental reason this classification exists is to
perform supervisory and technical work in administering and enforcing the
International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) and associated City of
Montgomery Code of ordinances. The employee is responsible for directing the inspection of properties, buildings,
or structures in the City to assure adherence to minimum property maintenance code requirements and
applicable standards of construction, maintenance, and safety. Work
Responsibilities include supervising
employees; providing technical support to inspectors and clerical staff; overseeing demolition cases; Municipal or
higher court cases; supervising the enforcement of litter, weed and parking in front yard ordinance;
and performs departmental administrative duties. Supervision is exercised over subordinate
inspectors and office personnel. Decisions which involve inspection and enforcement activities are usually made
independently but matters of departmental policy are subject to review by the Chief Building Official.
