Chief Property Maintenance Inspector (#CI2911)

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform supervisory and technical work in administering and enforcing the International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) and associated City of Montgomery Code of ordinances. The employee is responsible for directing the inspection of properties, buildings, or structures in the City to assure adherence to minimum property maintenance code requirements and applicable standards of construction, maintenance, and safety. Work Responsibilities include supervising employees; providing technical support to inspectors and clerical staff; overseeing demolition cases; Municipal or higher court cases; supervising the enforcement of litter, weed and parking in front yard ordinance; and performs departmental administrative duties.  Supervision is exercised over subordinate inspectors and office personnel. Decisions which involve inspection and enforcement activities are usually made independently but matters of departmental policy are subject to review by the Chief Building Official.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D. Must have at least eight (8) years of experience in building maintenance inspection, code enforcement or law enforcement to include three (3) years of responsible experience in a leadership capacity.

NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

 


Special Requirements

Ability to obtain a valid Alabama Driver's License to operate a city vehicle. Must be certified or obtain certification within one (1) year of employment, as a Property Maintenance Inspector through the International Code Council. APOST Certification can be substituted for Property Maintenance Certification.
