The fundamental reason the classification exists is to enforce the City
of Montgomery Zoning Ordinances. The work responsibilities include inspecting zoning
projects to enforce compliance with city zoning; investigating complaints
regarding the Zoning Ordinance; and communicating inspection results to persons
of interest for the purpose of providing information. Other
duties include inspecting residential and commercial structures and lots for
compliance with ordinances and related regulations and requirements, enforcing
the City of Montgomery codes and ordinances pertaining to deteriorated,
dilapidated and unsanitary conditions, the accumulation of litter, junk, trash,
stagnant water, and abandoned vehicles on residential lots hazardous to the
public’s health and safety. Work requires discretion and judgment in the
application of applicable zoning codes and ordinances. General direction is
received from the Land Use
Controls Administrator and Assistant Land Use Controls Administrator.
High
school diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience in urban planning, zoning,
architecture, and/or land use planning.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training, and
experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to
perform the job will be considered.
Must have and maintain a valid Alabama
driver’s license and insurable driving record as needed to operate a City
vehicle in the inspections of properties.
Must obtain an International Code Council (ICC) Zoning Inspector
Certification within the first year of employment and become a qualified
credentialed Inspector (QCI) within 1 year.
