The
fundamental reason that this position exists is to plan, install, repair and
maintain HVAC systems in City of Montgomery facilities. Employees in this class are responsible for
laying out work details, assigning duties and inspecting the work of a small
work crew. The work crew may consist of
any combination of HVAC Mechanic Is and/or IIs.
In addition to supervising a work crew, the incumbent performs
mechanical tasks. Major work functions
include troubleshooting and repairing HVAC systems in City of Montgomery
facilities, supervising and training subordinate personnel, installing and
replacing HVAC systems in City of Montgomery buildings and facilities, and
planning and designing new HVAC systems for large scale construction projects
or renovations. Assignments are made by
written or oral instructions.
Supervision is received from the Mechanical Trades Supervisor.
Must have five (5) years of
experience in installing, maintaining and repairing HVAC systems and one
(1) year experience in supervising
skilled and unskilled workers on HVAC repair and installation. Must possess an ACCA Refrigerant Recovery Certification,
Universal approval and an EPA 608 Type I and II certification.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must
possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver's license. Must be willing to work nights, weekends and
holidays and be on call 24 hours as needed. Must be willing to ride in trucks for long
periods of time, working outside for long periods of time, working in small
confined spaces, working in high areas.
