The fundamental reason this classification exist is to oversee a crew of semi-skilled and unskilled workers and participate in the maintenance of lawns and ground s of City parks and buildings. Responsibilities include effectively laying out work and maintaining work schedules and giving technical instructions as required. The essential function are: organizes and directs the work of a group of employees; and performs other maintenance duties. Work is received in the form of specific assignments and the work is inspected occasionally while in progress and upon completion. Supervision is received from the Street Maintenance Superintendent and/or supervisor.
One year of experience as a lead worker on a construction, maintenance, or landscape crew performing landscape maintenance duties.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must have and maintain a valid Alabama driver's license. Employment is conditioned upon applicants acquiring and maintaining an Alabama driver's license and providing a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) from the Department of Public Safety as proof of an insurable driving record. Some positions may require a valid commercial drivers license with a passenger endorsement. Some positions may require a training seminar with the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
