The
fundamental reason this classification exists is to oversee a small crew of
semi-skilled and unskilled workers and participate in the cleaning and
maintenance of grounds, parks, and recreation areas throughout the City of
Montgomery. The major work duties
include planning assignments, supervising a crew performing skilled and
semi-skilled work, and documenting project activities. The distinguishing characteristic of this
classification is Labor Foreman I positions are working supervisors, so they
not only perform supervisory duties they also perform duties assigned to their
subordinates. The Labor Foreman I must
be familiar with all of the tasks assigned to a crew as well as the equipment
operated in order to monitor work progress and train employees in the
performance of their duties. Incumbents are supervised by the District Park
Maintenance Supervisor.
One
(1) year of experience as a lead worker on a maintenance crew performing
litter/trash pick-up duties.
NOTE:
Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite
knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must
have and maintain a valid Driver’s License and insurable driving record in
order to operate City vehicles. Must
obtain within three (3) months of employment and maintain possession of an
Alabama Commercial Driver’s License Class “B” endorsement as needed to drive
and operate city dump truck.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Physical ability to lift and move objects from 50-70 pounds as needed to move materials at work site. Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, bend, climb ladder, and reach above head repeatedly for extended periods of time as needed to complete various work tasks.
