The
fundamental reason this job exists is to oversee work crews in street drainage
or concrete construction projects. This
is responsible skilled work supervising crews engaged in skilled and
semi-skilled drainage construction, maintenance and repair activities.
Employees in this class are responsible for assisting in the overall
supervision of several crews or in independent supervision of a large crew
performing drainage or concrete structure construction, and maintenance and
repair of storm sewer installation and repair. In addition, oversee multiple
crews of semi-skilled and unskilled work crews in maintenance and repair
activities of drainage ditches and rights-of-way. Responsibilities include
effectively laying out work and maintaining work schedules and giving technical
instructions as required. The major work responsibilities include: supervising
and directing work crews, estimating materials, labor, time and equipment and
answering citizens complaints concerning maintenance work. Supervision is
received from administrative superiors and the employee must rely on
independent judgment for the solution of most technical problems. This position
reports to a Street Construction Superintendent.
Must
have five (5) years of experience in the maintenance, repair and construction
of street drainage and/or concrete structures including two (2) years of experience
in supervising crews in the construction, maintenance and repair of street
drainage and/or concrete structures.
PREFERENCE STATEMENT: Preference may be given to candidates who currently
obtain a Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL)
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience
that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job
will be considered.
Must be able to work overtime, weekends and be
on-call 24 hours as needed for special projects and for emergency situations. Must
obtain a Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) within 6 months of hire
date.
