The
fundamental reason this class exists is to supervise Construction and Heavy
Equipment Operators in the installation, construction, maintenance, repair, and
demolition of streets, storm outfalls, large drainage structures, pre-cast
bridges, residential and commercial structures, and landfill cells. The work responsibilities of the position
are: supervise two or more full-time employees; direct the installation,
repair, maintenance, construction, and demolition of concrete structures,
parking lots, play areas, drainage ditches, and landfill cells; estimates materials,
labor, time and equipment for proposed construction, maintenance, repair, and
demolition projects; answers citizens’ complaints concerning maintenance work
on public property. Supervision is received from administrative
superiors, and the employee must rely on independent judgment to solve most
technical problems.
High
school diploma or G.E.D. and five years of experience in the maintenance,
repair and construction of streets, bridges, and drainage structures with at
least two years of experience operating construction equipment. Construction equipment experience is defined
as experience operating equipment such as dozers, compactors, excavators, or motor
graders.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must
have and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record as
needed to operate City vehicles. Must be
able to work overtime, weekends and be on-call 24 hours, as needed for special
projects and for emergencies situations.
Some positions may require the possession of a Class A or B CDL in order
to operate equipment. Incumbents of the
Landfill position are required to obtain ADM’s Landfill Operator Certification
within one (1) year of employment.
