Pay Grade
Nature of Work
The
fundamental reason this classification exists is to plan, assign, and supervise
the work of an entire custodial force engaged with cleaning activities in City
buildings. The custodial force,
approximately 50 employees excluding contracted workers, works in most City
buildings including City Hall, Union Station, the City’s community and
therapeutic centers, and restroom facilities at the City’s ball parks. Major interactions occur with work force,
department heads and their representatives, vendors, contractors, and sales
representatives. The major work duties
include managing the custodial services division, supervising the City’s
custodial staff, conducting inspections of City buildings for cleanliness and
maintenance issues, and performing various administrative duties. Specific oral and written instructions
accompany major assignments, but the employee makes independent decisions and
is responsible for planning and organizing details in the execution of
instructions. Errors can result in not training staff members on the proper
usage of chemicals and the appropriate safety materials to use during cleaning,
i.e., gloves, boots, aprons. Work is performed under the general direction of
the Assistant Maintenance Director, Building Maintenance and is reviewed on the
basis of results obtained.
