The fundamental reason this classification exists is
to supervise the custodial services division or subdivision within a large City
department. Employees in this class
supervise service maintenance workers in the performance of general cleaning
and custodial work to ensure the assigned buildings/facilities are properly
cleaned and floors are maintained within acceptable standards. The work
responsibilities of this class are: supervises two or more full-time employees
performing custodial and/or minor maintenance activities; trains and instructs
the work of employees engaged in such tasks as cleaning of restrooms,
vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting and polishing furniture, washing windows,
emptying waste receptacles, and waxing floors; conducts inspections of
buildings; performs administrative duties; and submits quotes to the Operations
Manager for review and approval. Work is performed under the general
supervision of the Operations Manager.
High
school diploma or GED equivalent and three (3) years of experience providing
commercial cleaning services. A minimum
of two (2) years of experience as a
lead person overseeing or directing custodial services is required. Preference will be given to persons serving
as lead worker of multiple locations.
NOTE: Qualifying education,
training, certifications and experience that provide the requisite knowledge,
skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Possession of a valid Alabama Driver’s License as
needed to visit City buildings and properties to assist employees and to
inspect the work of employees.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Travels to various office buildings within the City to
assist employees and to inspect the work of employees. May work with and/or be
exposed to cleaning fluids, chemicals, or similar solutions. Able to climb
heights greater than 10ft and comfortable maneuvering and access various
confined spaces at various heights and depths.
