The fundamental reason this
classification exists is to supervise the work of
multiple crews engaged in skilled carpentry work in both new and existing
construction. The primary work
responsibilities include: acting as the general contractor for large construction and
renovation projects; supervising skilled and semi-skilled workers
engaged in building construction trades (carpentry and construction); responding
to complaints concerning carpentry and construction maintenance in
city-owned/-operated facilities; preparing cost estimates
for project materials, labor, time and equipment needed to complete projects; preparing
project budgets; coordinating the work of carpentry and construction
crews with other departments’ crews and/or outside contractors; and overseeing
the preparation and maintenance of required paperwork. Work is performed
with limited supervision and the incumbent is required to exercise independent
judgment and technical expertise. Supervision is received from the Building
Construction Superintendent.
High
school diploma or GED and four (4) years of experience as a foreman or lead worker
supervising skilled and unskilled workers constructing buildings, additions, large
renovations, and minor carpentry repairs at a journeyman level.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
