The fundamental reason that this position exists is to serve as the primary point-of-contact between the Fleet Management’s Service Center and customers seeking repair and/or preventative maintenance on all rolling stock. Work involves performing inspections and diagnoses of various automobiles, trucks, heavy equipment, fire equipment, and other types of rolling stock. The work responsibilities are: initiates onsite and offsite service repairs and maintenance; manages the operations of the Fleet Management Service Center; and performs additional administrative and miscellaneous duties. Work requires high levels of customer service and listening skills as well as a broad range of automotive technical knowledge. Work is performed with considerable independence of judgment and supervision. The Service Writer reports to a Garage Superintendent.
Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License and an insurable driving record.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, crawl, climb, and occasional lifting as needed to inspect and diagnose vehicles and equipment.
