The fundamental reason this
classification exists is to provide skilled work in the repair, servicing, and
mounting/demounting of heavy equipment wheels and tires. Employees in this class work with
considerable independence in working the maintenance shop or responding to tire
service calls in the field in order to examine, repair, and/or replace
tires. The work responsibilities of the
job include repairing, servicing, mounting, and demounting tires for heavy
equipment, and heavy or medium truck tires both in the shop and on road
service; repairing, servicing, mounting, and demounting tires for light trucks,
automobiles, motorcycles, scooters, and other small vehicle tires; and servicing
light trucks and automobiles. For
safety purposes, it is preferred that servicers work in tandem. Work is performed under the supervision of the
Tire Shop Master Auto Mechanic or Auto Mechanic.
Must have six (6) months experience removing, disassembling, repairing, and reinstalling heavy equipment/truck tires such as garbage trucks, limb loaders, street sweepers, dump trucks, low boy trailers, and/or fire trucks.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Employment is conditioned upon applicants possessing and maintaining an Alabama Driver’s License and providing a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) from the Department of Public Safety as proof of an insurable driving record as needed to drive city vehicles.
