The fundamental reason this job exists is to oversee the structural repair of City-owned vehicles and equipment. The essential functions of this position are: oversees the structural repair of automobiles, light and heavy trucks, motorcycles and various types of City equipment; supervises two or more full-time employees; and performs administrative functions. This job incumbent receives supervision from the Garage Superintendent.
High school diploma or G.E.D. and five (5) years of experience as a journeyman Auto Body Repairer performing frame, body, finish, and paint work on automobiles, heavy, and/or light trucks or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, engine, and body parts assisted or unassisted weighing 50-100 pounds in order to maneuver heavy objects to make repairs. Physical ability to stand for long periods of time of up to 3 or 4 hours in order to make repairs. Physical ability to stoop, bend and crouch as needed to make repairs. Physical ability to work in a dusty environment as needed to make repairs. Physical ability to climb to heights of up to 12 feet using a step ladder in order to make repairs.
