The
fundamental reason this job exists is to make and repair the cabinetry used by
the employees of the City of Montgomery. Incumbents use hand and bench tools in
building and repairing articles of furniture. Assignments originate in the form
of work orders. Incumbents are
responsible for selection of materials, determination of work methods, and
completing the finished job with minimum supervision. Work is reviewed through
inspection of quality of workmanship on the finished assignment. The work
responsibilities of the position are: planning, organizing, monitoring,
supervising and directing the work of cabinetry staff; evaluating customer
cabinetry needs and prepares to construct cabinets; building and repairing
cabinetry; installing cabinetry; and performing administrative duties. The
incumbent supervises the Cabinetmaker, Carpenters, and Service Maintenance
Workers. The Cabinet Shop Foreman is supervised by the Maintenance Shop
Supervisor.
Five (5) years
of experience performing skilled woodworking and cabinetmaking tasks with two
(2) years of related lead worker experience.
Woodworking/cabinetry apprenticeship or vocational training in
woodworking/cabinetry can be substituted for one (1) year of the required
woodworking/cabinetmaking task experience.
