The fundamental reason this job exists is to build,
repair, finish, and install the cabinetry used by the employees of the City of
Montgomery. Incumbents use various
woodworking and finishing equipment in the production and finishing of
furniture. Assignments originate in the
form of work orders. Incumbents are responsible for selection of materials,
determination of work methods, and completing the finished job with minimum
supervision. Work is reviewed through
inspection of quality of workmanship on the finished assignment. The work
responsibilities of the position are: evaluates customer cabinetry needs and
prepares to finish cabinets; builds and repairs cabinetry; finishes and
installs cabinetry; and performs administrative and other miscellaneous duties. The Cabinetmaker is supervised by the Cabinet
Shop Foreman or Maintenance Shop Supervisor.
Two (2) years of experience performing skilled woodworking and cabinetmaking
tasks. Woodworking/cabinetry apprenticeship or vocational training in
woodworking/cabinetry can substitute for one year of the required experience.

education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills
and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
