The fundamental reason that this position exists
is to provide carpentry support to crews working for the construction,
maintenance, and repair of City properties. Incumbents are responsible for
performing skilled carpentry tasks in accordance with standard practices of the
trade. They perform skilled hand and bench carpentry duties including operating
power-driven equipment and using hand tools. Their assignments are received in
the form of oral or written instructions, sketches, or blueprints from a
supervisor. Work is reviewed by inspection during work process or upon
completion of assignment for compliance with specifications and standards. The
distinguishing characteristics of this classification within the series include
responsibility for performing journey-level work. Carpenter I incumbents are
learning the trade and, typically, do not yet possess the proficiency required
of a Carpenter II incumbent. Direct supervision is received from the Building
Construction Supervisor.
A high school diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience in rough and/or finished carpentry work.
NOTE:
Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite
knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must be willing to work weekends or long hours
for emergencies or special City events.
Must be willing to work from heights in order to complete carpentry
work. Willingness to work in poor weather conditions when required to perform
carpentry work.
