The fundamental reason this position exists is to provide skilled work at the journeyman level involving both rough and finished masonry. Employees perform assignments in the construction and maintenance of structural masonry work requiring the skilled use of standard tools of the trade. Work assignments are normally made orally or in the form of rough sketches or blueprints. Work is inspected for satisfactory compliance with instructions, although normal repairs are usually made independently without supervision or close review. Supervision may be exercised over one or more unskilled helpers assigned for temporary assistance.

Experience as a journeyman bricklayer or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in this work is preferred.
