The fundamental reason that this position exists is to trim and remove trees in the City of Montgomery right-of-ways. Work functions include climbing trees, operating an aerial bucket, operating pruning and trimming equipment and pruning and cutting down trees. The essential functions are: trims, and removes broken or dead limbs from tree and performs other tree trimming duties; and performs duties of the crew foreman in his or her absence. The position is directly supervised by the Tree Crew Foreman and may be required to act as the foreman in his or her absence.
Two years of experience in trimming and removal of trees which requires climbing using climbing spurs, ropes and buckles and the operation of an aerial bucket. Note: Preference may be given to applicants that possess a CDL (commercial driver's license).
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
May be required to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements. May be exposed to power lines. May work alongside road traffic. Required to work at varying heights by climbing the tree and/or operating and working from an aerial bucket truck at heights up to 95 feet.
Must maintain a valid Alabama driver's license as needed to drive the crew truck in the absence of the crew foreman. Must know how to tie the following knots: running bowling and half hitch and a stationary bowling. Must be able to obtain a CDL (commercial driver's license) within six (6) months of employment.
